Description from the seller
Antique French Louis XV Style Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock
An exquisite 19th-century French mantel clock crafted in the opulent Louis XV style.
This stunning timepiece features a heavily ornamented case made of finely cast and chased gilt bronze (ormolu), showcasing the signature asymmetrical movement and organic forms of the Rococo period.
• The clock is adorned with elaborate scrolling foliage, sweeping acanthus leaves, and stylized floral motifs. The dynamic, wave-like shapes create a beautiful sense of movement, culminating in a dramatic, pierced leaf finial at the crown.
The structure rests on four integrally cast, splayed scroll feet that flow seamlessly into the ornate lower apron, providing excellent stability while maintaining a light, airy aesthetic. At the center is a pristine white enameled dial featuring black Roman numerals for the hours and an outer track with Arabic numerals marking the five-minute intervals. It is fitted with elegant, decorative gilded hands and protected behind a hinged convex glass bezel.
