Group of violet cubic fluorite crystals on matrix from Stanhope, County Durham, England, UK, weighing 150 g with dimensions 94 × 55 × 33 mm, fluorescing blue under UV light.
Description from the seller
From our selection of collectible minerals, we present a splendid group of Fluorite crystals from Stanhope, County Durham, in England.
Moreover, it is characterized by twin violet cubic Fluorite crystals arranged in a dense cluster on a matrix, with tones that intensify in sunlight and blue fluorescence under UV rays, features that enhance its aesthetic value and mineralogical significance.
The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for its overall aesthetic balance, with characteristics that enhance its natural structure and visual impact.
Fluorite (CaF2) owes its violet color to color centers generated by small impurities and to natural irradiation phenomena in the crystal lattice. The Durham region, in particular the Weardale district, has historically been one of the most famous localities in the world for Fluorite: it was from samples from this area that in the nineteenth century the physicist George Gabriel Stokes coined the term
