Description from the seller
Val Saint Lambert “Valambert” Large Bicolour Crystal Perfume Flacon – Belle Époque, Art Nouveau, ca. 1908
No reserve price
An elegant and particularly impressive large Val Saint Lambert perfume flacon in the celebrated “Valambert” pattern, first documented in the 1908 catalogue and later incorporated into the Luxval range.
Standing 19 cm tall, this example represents one of the largest sizes in the Valambert collection, making it a particularly attractive example of this historic design.
Created during the Belle Époque, the model reflects the refined Art Nouveau aesthetic, with its organic, petal-like motifs, intricate geometric details and beautifully balanced proportions.
Made in bicolour crystal, combining clear crystal with a warm amber-yellow colour. The interplay of transparent and coloured sections creates beautiful depth, brilliance and reflections, particularly when illuminated by natural light.
The original sculptural stopper is preserved and individually fitted to the bottle, demonstrating the remarkable craftsmanship of Val Saint Lambert.
The model is documented in original Val Saint Lambert catalogues, providing an important historical reference and confirming its authenticity.
The flacon is preserved in good antique condition, with minor signs of use consistent with its age. There are no chips or deep scratches, including on the original stopper.
A beautiful example of Belgian crystal craftsmanship, combining the elegance of the Belle Époque, the refinement of Art Nouveau and the exceptional quality of Val Saint Lambert.
Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks.
The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp.
The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics.
Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation.
