Description from the seller
Panerai. by Simon De Burton, Giampiero Negretti, Flammarion Editore.
Italian-language richly illustrated edition, First edition, October 29, 2008.
192 pages, Dimensions 33.7 x 4.1 x 33.9 cm
ISBN-13: 978-8861307407
A rare collectible book, of great elegance, with hard cover, dust jacket and protective slipcase, in perfect condition, never used.
Supplier to the Italian Navy and specialized in high-precision mechanisms, Officine Panerai perfected, in the 1930s, the first underwater watches in the world, waterproof up to 650 feet and luminescent. Giovanni Panerai, the founder of the company, chose for his watches a large 47 mm case, a black dial (to make the luminous hands and numbers as readable as possible underwater) and a movement supplied by Rolex, the best and most robust of the era, destined to be used in a military wristwatch. Waterproof thanks to a 15 mm thick stainless steel case, the watch was equipped with a long oiled perforated leather strap that allowed it to be worn over a diver’s suit.
In 1997 the Richemont Group (Vendôme) bought Officine Panerai, the small Italian company almost unknown outside the military environment, and since then Panerai has become an iconic phenomenon of haute horology that has captured the hearts and sparked the imagination of collectors.
The volume, published in 2008, explores Panerai’s rich history and traces the brand’s evolution from its founding in Florence in 1860.
The work guides readers on an extraordinary journey into the world of luxury watchmaking, where technical mastery, passion and meticulous craftsmanship come together to create timeless masterpieces.
A reference book on the iconic Panerai watches, indispensable for specialist enthusiasts in the field and collectors of prestigious timepieces, richly illustrated, celebrating the fusion of form and function that characterizes every Panerai creation.
The original photographs by Eric Sauvage and Nils Herrmann, commissioned for the volume, highlight the exclusive technical aspects of Panerai models, with special sections dedicated to precision instruments invented for the Italian navy and for international collectors.
