Globular stoneware vase by Albert Kiessling (1925–1996) in blue and white Studio Pottery decoration, dating from the 1970s–1980s in Germany, measuring 16 cm high and 10 cm in diameter, weighing 1 kg, signed A. Kiessling and in good, lightly worn condition.
Description from the seller
Fascinating and rare spherical vase in art stoneware (Studio Pottery) crafted and signed by the renowned German master potter Albert Kiessling (1925–1996), one of the prominent figures in East Germany's (Lohmen) studio pottery. The piece stands out for an extraordinary and complex two-layer reactive glaze technique:
• Upper section: Characterized by a glossy cobalt blue and black flambé glaze, with spectacular vertical drips and blue veining that create a jagged wave profile.
• Lower section: Finished with a matte base glaze, finely pitted with an "orange peel" texture in tones of periwinkle / lavender.
The flat beigey-tan stoneware base shows the typical wheel marks and bears the original autograph signature "A. Kiessling" incised with a fine point into the wet clay before firing, guaranteeing the piece's absolute authenticity. An excellent work for mid-century ceramic collectors and Mid-Century Modern design.
