Its violet shade and intense color reflect its chemical composition, namely iron and magnesium silicate, which makes it a very valuable and highly decorative mineral. Amethysts form in volcanic-origin areas and have the peculiarity of crystallizing inside cavities within volcanic rocks, such as among basaltic lavas, for example.
