Description from the seller
Polished Douvilleiceras Ammonite – Worked Aperture – Cretaceous, Madagascar
A striking polished Douvilleiceras ammonite from the Cretaceous deposits of Madagascar, distinguished by its powerful ribbing, sculptural form and carefully worked aperture.
The shell displays the characteristic strong radial ribs and pronounced ornamentation of the genus. Polishing has enhanced the naturally dark brown to almost black mineralization, creating a glossy surface that beautifully emphasizes the relief of the ribs and the intricate pale suture lines running across the fossil.
One of the most distinctive features is the worked aperture, where the shell has been carefully prepared to reveal part of the internal structure. This creates an unusual sculptural profile and adds considerable depth to the specimen.
The ammonite retains strong three-dimensional volume, while natural fractures, mineralized areas and irregularities remain visible as part of its geological history.
The contrast between the dark polished shell, lighter suture patterns and deeply sculpted ribbing makes this an especially decorative example, suitable for fossil collections, natural history displays and cabinets of curiosities.
Clear plastic display stand included.
