Pecopteris plumosa fossil from the Carboniferous period, an original natural specimen from an old European collection, weighing 775 g and measuring 16.5 cm high, 12 cm wide and 3.7 cm deep.
Description from the seller
Pecopteris plumosa – Carboniferous Plant Fossil – Old European Collection
A highly decorative fossil slab preserving several fronds of Pecopteris plumosa, a classic Carboniferous fern-like plant.
The specimen shows numerous overlapping pinnate fronds, with slender central rachises and clearly defined leaflets arranged along the stems. The dark fossilized plant remains contrast strongly against the pale grey matrix, making the structure of the fronds especially easy to appreciate.
Several individual branches are preserved across the slab, creating a dense and natural composition that evokes the lush swamp forests of the Carboniferous period.
Pecopteris is one of the best-known plant fossils from Carboniferous coal-forming environments and is particularly valued for its elegant foliage and fine preservation.
The specimen comes from an old European collection, adding further historical interest to the piece.
An attractive paleobotanical specimen, ideal for fossil collectors, natural history displays and cabinets of curiosities.
