Chaty Vallauris vintage sun mirror, France, dating to 1950–1960, with a 85 cm diameter brass gilt rays and a 24 cm central convex glass mirror in excellent condition with minimal wear.
Description from the seller
Grand sun mirror Chaty Vallauris
This emblematic model of French art was produced in the 1950s–1960s.
This exemplar is large-sized: 85 cm in diameter for the largest rays, with a very beautiful patina.
The Châty brand specialized in sun mirrors in gilded metal. The inscription on the back, « CHATY VALLAURIS A.M. » (A.M. for Alpes-Maritimes), attests to its authenticity. It is one of the few sun-mirror manufacturers of that era to consistently sign the backing board or rear panel of its creations, making it a certified and sought-after piece.
The rays are made of gilded metal. They are arranged in a sheaf of alternating lengths for a very successful dynamic effect.
The central mirror is bulged, often called a “witch mirror” (or witch’s eye), typical of these productions. It reflects light in a very particular way and adds depth. It is surrounded by a twisted molding, and by another smooth one. It measures 24 cm in diameter.
The twisted molding that frames the central mirror is also a classic visual signature of the flagship Châty models.
Some rays are slightly bent.
An iconic object for decorating your interior.
