Jaz RONCIC Space Age electronic wall clock with ivory plastic case and burgundy dial, 24 cm square, made in France in 1977–1978, powered by a transistor-controlled Jaz TM movement with one LR14 battery, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
Jaz RONCIC wall clock, reference 4333-60, from the Jaz Electronic collection: a distinctive combination of French clockmaking and expressive 1970s design.
DESIGN & STYLE
The rounded ivory case surrounds a softly squared dial with curved corners, recalling the television-screen shapes associated with Space Age interiors. The contrast between the smooth outer shell, textured ivory surround and granular burgundy-red dial gives the clock depth and character.
Slender white Arabic numerals and raised rectangular hour markers stand out against the dark dial. Gold-tone hour and minute hands complement the warm ivory case, while a fine white central seconds hand features a rectangular counterweight.
The signature Jaz bird emblem and cursive “Electronic” inscription complete the dial. Its colour combination and sculptural profile make it an appealing accent for a vintage interior, kitchen, study or collection of French design.
REAL GLASS FRONT
The dial is protected by flat glass, rather than acrylic. The smooth glass surface is easy to clean using a soft, lightly dampened cloth. Apply cleaning liquid to the cloth rather than directly to the clock, avoiding moisture around the edges.
MOVEMENT & TECHNICAL DETAILS
The clock is fitted with a period Jaz TM transistor-controlled movement, the calibre documented for the RONCIC, operating under ATO licence.
Powered by one LR14 / C battery, the mechanism combines an electromagnetic coil with a mechanical balance wheel and hairspring. This construction represents an interesting stage in the development of electronic domestic clocks.
The movement is marked:
• JAZ S.A.
• MADE IN FRANCE
• ONE (1) JEWEL
A +/− rate adjustment allows fine correction of timekeeping. The internal photographs document the movement, its construction and its markings.
The transparent movement cover bears a hand-scratched inscription reading “VSD 11/02/77”. The date is consistent with the model’s documented period, although the purpose of the inscription is unknown and it is not presented as a confirmed manufacturing date.
HISTORY & MODEL IDENTIFICATION
Jaz’s origins date back to the founding of the Compagnie Industrielle de Mécanique Horlogère in 1919.
The RONCIC was introduced on page 30 of the 1977 Jaz catalogue and remained available in 1978. It was no longer listed in the 1979 catalogue.
Two versions were offered:
• Reference 4333-60: ivory case with red dial, as offered here.
• Reference 4333-70: ivory case with yellow dial.
This example combines the characteristic appearance of the Electronic collection with a French-made movement and the recognisable Jaz bird emblem.
