Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino 2018, three 0.75 L bottles from Italy, with a high fill level.
Description from the seller
Brunello di Castiglion del Bosco stems from the uniqueness of the Capanna vineyard, located northwest of Montalcino. The vineyard's distinctive features, including natural isolation, altitude, and soil dominated by clay slate, impart refined elegance and great personality to this precious wine.
The 2018 vintage at Castiglion del Bosco:
The 2018 vintage was a challenge for both man and vine. The cool, rainy spring made the vegetation very vigorous. Green cultivation required a lot of care and work to help the vine reach vegetative balance. These weather conditions continued into the first part of summer, characterized by cool days and abundant rainfall. The end of summer was warm and dry, which allowed good ripening, albeit slightly earlier than usual. In the first half of September, harvest began in the Gauggiole area, on the north side of the estate. The grapes showed excellent acidity and a relatively low sugar content, perfect for fresher, more vibrant wines. The excellent varietal expressions and very mature tannins will give rise to a Brunello that is highly recognizable, with a clear and unique style.
Vinification and aging:
Fermentation took place at a controlled temperature (28°C) for 18 days. Aging occurred in French oak casks (30-50 hl) and barriques for 24 months. It then continued with bottle aging before being released onto the market.
