Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino 2018, bottled in 0.75 L Burgundy/champagne-flute bottles with a high fill level, Italy, three bottles.
Description from the seller
Brunello di Castiglion del Bosco originates from the uniqueness of the Capanna vineyard, located northwest of Montalcino. The peculiar characteristics of this vineyard, such as natural isolation, altitude and soil, characterized mainly by the presence of clay shists, impart refined elegance and great personality to this precious wine.
The 2018 vintage at Castiglion del Bosco:
The 2018 vintage was a challenge for both man and vine. The cool and rainy spring made the plants' growth very vigorous. Managing the greens required a lot of attention and work to allow the plant to reach vegetative balance. These weather conditions continued into the first part of summer, characterized by cool days and abundant rains. The end of summer was warm and dry, and this allowed good ripening, even if slightly earlier than usual. In the first half of September, harvest began in the Gauggiole area, on the north side of the estate. The grapes showed excellent acidity and a relatively low sugar content, perfect for fresher and more vibrant wines. The excellent varietal expressions and very mature tannins will give rise to a very recognizable Brunello, with a clear and unique style.
Vinification and aging:
Fermentation took place at a controlled temperature (28°C) for 18 days. The aging took place in French oak casks (30-50 hl) and barriques for 24 months. It then continued with bottle aging before market release.
