Two vintage Drevounia chairs designed in the early 1950s in Czechoslovakia, made of beech plywood with a bentwood frame, in good used condition with minor signs of age and spots, dimensions 45 × 43 × 87 cm (W × D × H) with a seat height of 46 cm and a total weight of 5 kg.
Description from the seller
Original marked Drevounia chairs, designed, beginning in the 1950s and developed by Thonet. Beautifully shaped timeless design made of bent beech plywood connected to a round steel frame. The chairs are very robust and extremely comfortable due to the pre-formed ergonomic seat shell.
Back then and now true eye-catchers with age: really highly sought after by lovers of Mid-Century Modern (MCM) and vintage design. This set is in well-used and maintained condition with few signs of wear; given the age, it is still very collectible!
Drevounia (often in collaboration with the export brand Ligna) was a Czech-Slovak state trading company (Podnik zahraničného obchodu, PZO) responsible for exporting timber and furniture products abroad during the communist period (especially from the 1950s to 1990). Today the name is worldwide known on vintage and design markets mainly for the mid-century bentwood chairs that were exported under this label.
The role of Drevounia: Drevounia itself was not a furniture manufacturer, but a centralized import-export company of the state. Furniture traded through them often carried a paper label or sticker reading "Drevounia - Made in Czechoslovakia".
• Real manufacturers: The chairs were produced in nationalized Czechoslovak furniture factories. The best known of these was TON (Bystřice pod Hostýnem), the original and historic factory of the world-famous furniture maker Michael Thonet which was nationalized by the communist regime after World War II.
• Popular designs: Through Drevounia many iconic designs were spread worldwide, including the classic Vienna café chairs, Thonet models No. 209 and No. 210 (favorites of architect Le Corbusier), and Josef Hoffmann-inspired designs.
Dimensions of these 2 billiard-, pub-, bistro chairs are:
45 cm wide, 86+87 cm high, 43 cm deep, and the seat height is 46 cm,
This super cool chair set is in solid condition, good for many more years of use.
Material: beech wood with beautiful patina.
Weight: 5 kg per set
Please take a good look at the many photos.
This chair set will be sent by registered mail (insured) and well packed, but can of course also be picked up together in the Roosendaal-Bergen op Zoom area.
