Description from the seller
Late Inca–Early Hispanic Wooden Keru with Double Raised Bands – Late 16th to Early 17th Century AD
A wooden keru with a wide, flaring drinking bowl above a narrower waist and a spreading circular base. Two pronounced rounded bands encircle the middle of the vessel, creating a distinctive profile and separating the upper cup from the lower supporting section. The dark brown wood retains warmer reddish tones, with visible grain, surface wear and small losses around the rim. Several cracks extend through the body, and metal repair staples remain visible on one side, recording interventions intended to preserve the vessel. Its decoration relies on the carved form and raised bands rather than a surviving painted scene. The interior is hollowed, with an uneven surface and wear consistent with its preserved condition.
Material: Wood, with metal repair staples
Dimensions: Height 21 cm; mouth diameter 19 cm; base diameter 14 cm
Weight: 587 g
Provenance: Acquired in Germany from a Bavarian collection.
We guarantee the authenticity of the pieces, backed by the combined experience of our experts spanning more than 40 years. A Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) will be sent digitally by email.
