Merrow Machine Co. iron overlock machine, model 60WD, ca. 1920, in good used condition with patina, dimensions 30 × 20 × 14 cm, in working order.
Description from the seller
For the true enthusiast, collector, or professional restaurateur: a splendid, authentic industrial overlock machine (serger) from the world-famous The Merrow Machine Company in Hartford, Connecticut (USA). Merrow is historically known as the inventor and pioneer of the original overlock stitch.
This rare specimen belongs to the legendary Class 60 series and is a beautiful, tangible piece of industrial history over a century old.
Main plus:
Mechanical condition: The machine runs still completely smoothly! The handwheel and the internal mechanism move smoothly without friction or blockages. This makes the machine immediately suitable as a fantastic basis for a functional restoration, rather than merely a static decorative piece.
Specifications & Details:
Brand: The Merrow Machine Co.
Model / Style: Style 60WD (Heavy 3-thread version)
Serial number: No. 51778 (Fully legible on the original brass nameplate)
Exact Year of Manufacture: Approx. 1920 (produced between 1919 and 1921 based on official factory archives)
Material: Solid cast iron (very heavy, indestructible American quality)
Origin: Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A.
Condition of the object:
The machine is in a beautiful, unrestored and well-used vintage condition with a fantastic authentic patina. The original brass nameplate is still excellently legible. This concerns the loose machine head (as pictured), which was originally powered by an external motor under a work table.
Why this Merrow?
Unlike modern plastic lock machines, this machine is built from pure cast iron to last for generations. Parts for legacy Merrow machines are still excellently supported by the manufacturer and specialists. A durable and functional object that rarely comes onto the market in this smoothly running condition!
