AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Very Heavy Solid Silver Miniature Steam Engine Stephenson's Rocket.

The miniature is exceptionally beautiful in form and highly detailed, handmade in the shape of the famous Stephenson's Rocket steam locomotive.

Not from a registered large factory, but typical of the Hanau / Schwäbisch Gmünd school – the German silver cities that between 1890-1935 produced thousands of these heavy novelty miniatures for the Dutch and German markets.

The steam engine is manually equipped with many nice details such as: the tall chimney with crown crown, boiler with inscription "ROCKET", steam dome, cylinder with connecting rod to the large spoked wheel, tender and engineer with top hat and much more (see photos).
Both sides beautifully worked.

• Dating: circa 1910-1935.

The version with chimney, connecting rod, spoked wheels and engineer with top hat is exactly from that period.

It is a large robust miniature with a width of 5.8 cm and an overall height of 6.2 cm.
The steam engine weighs 65.00 grams for a miniature and is quite heavy.
Solidly built, not hollow or ballast-filled.

The miniature is very comprehensively double-checked and marked with silver hallmarks:
Gehalte teken 835 in oval, indicating silver content 835/100
Master mark S.V in oval (see photos).
Germany, first half of the 20th century, Hanau tradition.

The steam engine was imported earlier and upon import into the Netherlands was stamped with the Dutch (strict) silver content standards.

After approval, the steam engine was marked with the old Dutch (import) silver content mark ZII
This hallmark was used on older, trade-returning works (of second grade 835/1000 silver) that were offered for assay in a finished state.
Also marked with the master mark HD+ of the silversmith who certified the miniature in the Netherlands and provided with the silver marks (see photos).

This beautiful, rare handmade antique silver miniature steam engine, due to its size, its handsome form, its detailed workmanship and the many charming details, makes an outstanding and particularly decorative whole.

A large variant for the collector of silver miniatures, steam engines, trains and technical antiques.

Well packed and insured shipping."
