A single illuminated manuscript Qur’anic folio from a 16th‑century Ottoman Qur’an, in Arabic, 18 by 23 cm, one page, good condition, dating to around 1550, containing the final verses of Surah Al‑Mujādila and the opening verses of Surah Al‑Hashr with the bismillah and decorative headings.
Description from the seller
A single illuminated manuscript folio page from a 16th Century Qur'an from the Ottoman. The folio contains the final verses of Chapter 58, Al-Mujadila (The Pleading Woman) , together with the illuminated Surah heading, bismillah and first 2 verses of Chapter 59, Surah al-Hashr (The Banishment). Both address the inevitable victory of Allah and His Messenger, the fate of those who oppose Islam, and the transition of power in Medina. At the end of Surah Al-Mujadila (58:21), Allah declares: "I will surely overcome, I and My messengers."Immediately at the start of Surah Al-Hashr (59:1–2), history demonstrates this exact decree in action—showing how Allah humbled and expelled the defiant People of the Book from their fortified strongholds in Medina when they opposed the Prophet.
An elaborate decorative Juz, with finials north and south, marks both 20th verse of Chapter 58. The script is evenly spaced naskhi scripture in a good hand, with the verses marked by simple gold aya containing a blue centre dot and five radial arms of equal spacing. A thick gold frame surrounds the whole, with a finer blue outer frame line completing the framing.
The folio is in good condition.
Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.
Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
New German customs regulations mean that we are now having to pay customs before the item leaves the UK. Regrettably we have to pass these costs on through a surcharge on postage to Germany. As we don't know the final auctions costs we have estimated the approximate value. If the custom costs more than we have anticipated, we will absorb the additional customs duty.
