Description from the seller
Henri Heemskerk (Verreries de Scailmont) – Magnificent Art Deco 3-piece Lead Glass Garniture (Marmoréen)
Manufacturer: Verreries de Scailmont (Manage, Belgium)
Designer: Henri Heemskerk (an attributed)
Period: About 1930
Origin: Belgium
Style: Art Deco
Magnificent and rare 3-piece Art Deco glass garniture, designed by the renowned designer Henri Heemskerk (attributed) and manufactured by the Belgian glass factory Verreries de Scailmont in Manage around 1930. A complete set in this configuration and warm color palette is extremely unique to find.
About the Designer and Manufacturer
Henri Heemskerk was an influential designer who, during the interwar period, made a name for Verreries de Scailmont. Together with contemporaries, he pushed the boundaries in the use of pressed glass. Where pressed glass had previously often been seen as a cheap alternative to hand-blown glass, Heemskerk and Scailmont managed, thanks to refined form and spectacular color effects, to create true works of art that were beloved by the affluent middle class.
The Production Process (Marmoréen glass)
This glassware is produced in the technique that is characteristic of the heyday of Belgian and French Art Deco culture. By adding different colored metal oxides and glass flow during the pressing process, a lively, marbled structure (often referred to as marmoreal or agate glass) was created. The deep, warm hues of yellow, amber, brown, and red merge seamlessly into one another.
When light shines through the glass (as seen in the detail photos with incoming light), the rich layering and superb color nuance come to life beautifully.
Specifications and Dimensions:
Large Vase 1: Height 29.5 cm | Diameter approx. 27 cm | Opening ø 11 cm | Weight: 1360 g
Large Vase 2: Height 29.5 cm | Diameter approx. 27 cm | Opening ø 11 cm | Weight: 1320 g
Small Vase: Height 19.5 cm | Diameter approx. 16 cm | Weight: 660 g
Condition:
The set is in a beautiful and authentic vintage condition. Given the age and fragility of pressed glass from this period, there are a few minuscule, virtually invisible chips/flea bites at the upper rim (see detail photo highlighted with a lamp). This hardly detracts from the impressive aesthetic and decorative value of this rare ensemble.
Packaging and Shipping:
Given the fragility of this historic glassware, extreme care is taken in packing.
Individually packaged: Each of the three vases is individually and carefully packed in multiple layers of bubble wrap and protective material to prevent any contact between them.
Box-in-box system: A sturdy box-in-box system is then used (a strong inner package fully suspended and enclosed in a second, larger outer box with shock-absorbing fill).
In this way, the package is optimally protected and fully insured for shipment, so it arrives undamaged at its destination.
