A 1940s–1950s Bequet & Paico sculptural mantel clock in faience with a heron and aquatic reeds, model 633 from Belgium, measuring 37 cm high by 32.5 cm wide and weighing 1.944 kg; the ceramic sculpture is in excellent condition with minimal wear, but the Paico movement is not functional and the piece is sold as is.
Description from the seller
Beautiful Art Deco-style sculptural mantel clock depicting a heron among aquatic reeds. This authentic vintage piece was produced in Belgium in the mid-20th century, between the 1940s and 1950s. The ceramic sculpted part is glazed earthenware and polished with pearlescent and iridescent reflections on the bird’s plumage, while the base displays a contrasting green that imitates vegetation. It was made by the renowned Belgian earthenware factory Hubert Bequet in Quaregnon. Under the base there is the model or mold number engraved in relief 633, along with a second stamped number, which can be read as 6 or 9 depending on the orientation. The object incorporates a clock from the British brand Paico, originating from the United Kingdom, which on its removable dial bears the word Foreign beneath the number six. This period inscription indicates that the internal mechanical movement was imported before being assembled by the English manufacturer. Following the drying of the old fittings, the clock block detached from the ceramic support over time and the mechanical movement is not functional, the whole piece being sold as is. The piece has a generous size, measuring 32.5 centimeters in height, 37 centimeters in width, and a total weight of 1.944 kilograms. The ceramic figurine is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or breaks, which is very rare for pieces of this era, although the clock dial shows normal wear scratches in the center due to the rubbing of the hands. For delivery, shipment will be carried out in ultra-protected and secure packaging to guarantee the perfect integrity of the ceramic until its receipt.
