Chinese Cinnabar Style Lacquer Box - China - 20th century

A vintage decorative Chinese cinnabar-style box, deeply carved (moulded) in the traditional red lacquerware manner with a scenic landscape to the domed lid — showing a figure carrying baskets across a rustic path, pine trees, distant mountains, sailing boats, and a village of pitched-roof houses, all rendered in the classic layered, textural style associated with true carved cinnabar lacquerware. The sides are decorated with scrolling foliate and lotus motifs within a geometric star-and-lattice diaper border, and the box opens on brass hinges to reveal a vivid blue enamelled interior with a brass rim trim.

Measurements/weight:
15cm long x 10cm wide x 4.5cm high
561g - lovely hefty weight, its a nice quality decorative box.

Please note: this piece is made from lacquerware, rather than hand-carved cinnabar lacquer.
