AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Front Marker "Argonne"

In Sèvres porcelain, depicting a base topped by an Adrian helmet resting on a laurel crown bearing the inscription "Argonne." On the front is inscribed "Here the invader was halted 1918" as well as the mention "Touring Club de France." On the sides a canteen and a gas mask case and four grenades at the corners. Signature of the artist Moreau-Vauthier at the bottom of the base on the right. Sèvres stamp behind the base "S 1921 DN" (creation of the model) and Sèvres mark "S 1922 DN" underneath (edition of the model).

The Front Line Markers or Vauthier Markers are a series of sculptures produced in the 1920s by artist Paul Moreau-Vauthier to materialize the front line of the Second Battle of the Marne in July 1918, during one of the last Allied offensives. 240 markers were planned, but due to lack of funding only 118 were erected. They are located in Belgium and France. There are currently 97 remaining. Scale models were issued in bronze; however, in porcelain it is much rarer.

Very good condition, high-quality object.
