Dutch 1930s–1950s Oud Delft earthenware lidded vase, 47 cm high and 22 cm in diameter, with blue hand-painted decorative motifs on a light ground and a lid featuring a sculpted lion knob; condition: good used with minor age-related marks and a glued lion tail and a chipped lip on the lid.
Description from the seller
Magnificent Dutch lid vase from the traditional ceramic manufactory Oud Delft in Nijmegen, presumably from the 1930s to 1950s. The imposing vase captivates with its classic cobalt blue hand painting on a light ground. Lush flower arrangements, artistic tendrils, flowing ornaments, and finely worked medallions give it a particularly decorative radiance. An extraordinary eye-catcher is the elaborately designed lid with a sculpted animal figure as a knob, which impressively crowns the elegant silhouette. The harmonious combination of traditional Delft ornamentation with the formal, representative shape makes this lid vase a characterful collectible of Dutch ceramic art.
On the underside sits the hand-painted maker's mark from Oud Delft with the stylized potter’s wheel symbol. The mark allows a rough dating to the mid-20th century.
The lion’s tail is glued. The lid has a chip on the lower edge. Please take a look at the photos.
The item will be wrapped in bubble wrap and surrounded by bio-styrofoam in a double-walled carton and shipped by DHL.
