Antique Régence commode from around 1710, in walnut and rosewood veneers with elaborate inlays, fitted with gilt-bronze mounts (later replaced) and attributed to Thomas Hache, dating to the early 18th century.
Description from the seller
Regence Commode from around 1710, walnut with inlays, attributed to Thomas Hache.
For sale is an extraordinary and very rare commode from the period around 1710, sourced from the inventory of a villa in Wiesbaden.
The piece stands out for its exceptionally high-quality, light, and heavily figured walnut veneer. Particularly impressive is the elaborately crafted top panel with its very fine geometric inlays and marquetry. The front and sides are also richly veneered, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship of this piece of furniture more than 300 years old.
An extraordinary piece of furniture over 300 years old with a museal character, elaborate inlay work, and impressive presence. Due to its quality and rarity, the plan is to submit the commode to an auction in the near future. Until then, there is still the possibility of a direct purchase.
Visually, the commode initially appears to be a classic three-drawer piece. In fact, it has four individually operable drawers: the upper level is divided in the middle into two separate drawers, while below are two large full-length drawers. This construction is harmoniously integrated into the overall design from the outside.
Noteworthy is the surrounding brass inlay around the top panel. On account of various stylistic and craftsmanship features, the commode is attributed to Thomas Hache. A definite signature could not be determined. On the back there is a heavily aged historical paper label, whose inscription is unfortunately no longer fully legible today.
The commode has been fully restored and is ready to be lived in. For its extraordinary age it is in a very good overall condition. Minor age-related signs of wear and traces of earlier restorations may be present, of course.
Please note that the gilded bronze fittings have been replaced.
