Description from the seller
Rare handmade solid silver miniature.
The miniature is particularly elegant in form and very detailed, handmade in the shape of a kneeling Grenadier à Pied de la Garde Impériale in a firing position.
A well-known model from the Napoleonic wars (c. 1810–1815), recognizable by the tall shako (colbak), the full knapsack on the back, and the musket with bayonet at the ready. Executed as a classic "Zinnfigur" but entirely in solid silver.
The miniature is made by the well-known Frisian silversmith Van der Meulen.
The miniature is stamped on the base plate and marked with silver hallmarks:
Master mark VDM in a rectangular cartouche of the well-known Frisian silversmith VD. Meulen.
Who worked as a silversmith in Joure.
Also supplied with the Rijkskeurmerk the Sword (Zwaardje) (2nd quality small work).
It is a sturdy robust miniature, dimensions are 5.5 by 1.5 cm and the height is 4.2 cm.
The whole thing weighs 45.00 grams, which is quite heavy for a miniature.
The miniature is in exceptionally beautiful, pristine and complete condition for its age of at least 50 years.

In 35 years I have seen many miniatures and pieces of silver by VD. Meulen, but this is the first time I have seen a miniature by him.
A very decorative and rare collectible for the collector of Frisian silver, militaria and silver miniatures.
This gorgeous, extremely rare handmade Dutch silver miniature is, due to its lovely form, its detailed workmanship and the many charming details, a striking and remarkable decorative object.
Carefully packaged and insured for shipment.
