Description from the seller
The Venus' flower basket (Euplectella aspergillum) is a glass sponge of the phylum Porifera. It is a marine sponge found in the deep waters of the Pacific Ocean, usually at depths below 500 m. Like other sponges, it feeds by filtering seawater to capture plankton and marine snow. The sponges are typically 10 to 30 cm tall. It is often the case that the sponges host a pair of shrimp that are usually unable to exit the sponge's lattice due to their size and consequently live inside, establishing a mutualistic relationship with the sponge until death. The shrimp live and breed in the shelter provided by the sponge, and in return also clean the inside of the sponge. This may have influenced the adoption of the sponge as a symbol of eternal love in Japan, where the skeletons of these sponges are presented as wedding gifts. Little is known about their reproductive habits; it is hypothesized that they may be hermaphroditic.
A necessary clarification. The final image of our photographic gallery is obtained with the aid of AI software. The purpose is purely aesthetic but simultaneously exemplary: it shows the real object within an artificially generated setting. The goal is to show how valuable the items in the auction are and how well they fit in different environments, all exceedingly refined. We thank you for your attention.

Happy bidding.
