Description from the seller
Rare and antique Japanese Tea and Coffee Service.
Very fine porcelain called Eggshell, « Dai Nippon »
The pattern is the Phoenix (Blue & White). This complete service dates from the Meiji / Taisho era (1880-1900)
It is a true testimony to the table art of the Far East at the turn of the 20th century.
Each centerpiece piece bears, under its base, the hand-painted blue underglaze signature « 大日本 » (Dai Nippon / Great Japan), guaranteeing its authenticity and age. It is very rare to find this service in such a complete version.
The cups are crafted in an exceptionally delicate porcelain, so-called “eggshell.” With unmatched finesse and lightness, the porcelain reveals itself almost translucent to the light, offering exceptional refinement when tasting.
The set features the traditional Asian-inspired cobalt-blue design of the flying Phoenix (Ho-o) and its delicate paulownia scrolls, beautifully printed in cobalt blue.
The condition of the service is overall flawless. Any signs of wear or traces of time are visible in the photos that form part of the description.
The large cake plate is included. It bears the same decoration but is made in a less ancient Japanese style. I am happy to include it with the lot.
