Specimen: enormous tooth from a great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), Madagascar, 2004, 500 g, 47.7 × 39.2 mm, in good condition.
Description from the seller
The great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is a cartilaginous fish in the family Lamnidae.
The sole living representative of the genus Carcharodon, this shark is the largest predatory fish on the planet, as well as the third-largest fish of all time, after the whale shark and the elephant shark.
The term Carcharodon comes from ancient Greek karcharódōn (composed of kárcharos, meaning "sharp" or "keen" with odóntos, meaning "tooth").
KARCHARÍAS, instead, means "shark"; the final meaning is thus: "shark with sharp teeth".
The mouth of the great white shark is equipped with several rows of teeth: triangular and serrated on the upper jaw to shred prey, long and pointed on the lower jaw to stab and hold the prey.
Exceptional tooth from the upper jaw, lateral side
Dimensions: 47.7 mm x 39.2 mm.
Serration clearly delineated, enamel of the highest quality, tooth completely free of imperfections.
Very beautiful!
A prize worth winning.
