Specimen: enormous branching Acropora coral; Scientific name: Acropora humilis; 1 object; origin Solomon Islands; condition good; year 2023; weight 5 kg; dimensions 26 × 31 × 30 cm.
Description from the seller
Acropora humilis, also known as finger coral, is a species of Acroporid coral. Found in tropical, shallow coral reefs, on flat surfaces and on the upper reef slope, at depths down to 12 meters. The species occurs in digitate colonies of thick, tapering branches. The branches contain one or more large, dome-shaped axial corallites, and incipient axial corallites or ramets at their base. Its radial corallites occur in two different diameters, the larger of which are arranged in rows. It is mainly cream, blue, brown, or purple in color, and the branches have cream or blue tips.
It should be noted that the corals for auction are still subject to regular CITES documentation. It is expected that the Solomon Islands will publish new regulations regarding coral export. Any restriction would, besides making it difficult to obtain these beautiful specimens on the market, also cause a significant increase in their prices.
A lot that is absolutely worth winning.
Stand not included, made from reclaimed material and used for photographic purposes only.
Good auction.
