The Nude (Rafu) is a focused collection of Masayuki Miyata's kirie works devoted to the female nude and erotic beauty.
Miyata transforms the human figure through his distinctive cut-paper technique, combining sharp, flowing contours with large areas of black and white, delicate color and highly stylized compositions. The result is sensual without becoming merely illustrative: the nude body is treated as both an erotic subject and an abstract graphic form.
The book includes groups of works such as Nude Fourteen Poses, Kurokami, Konji Rafu and Adesugata, together with texts discussing Miyata's artistic world and his aesthetics of eroticism.
This is one of the more concentrated and sensual publications devoted to Miyata's work, quite different in character from his better-known literary, landscape and classical Japanese subjects.
