Description from the seller
René Lalique at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum
Curated by Maria Fernanda Passos Leite
René Lalique (1860–1945) and the British entrepreneur and philanthropist of Armenian origins Calouste Gulbenkian were friends for over 50 years. Between 1899 and 1927 Gulbenkian purchased directly from the artist 80 exceptional works of art. "My admiration for his unique work has grown over the 50 years of our friendship," he testified later; "I am proud to own, I believe, the largest number of Lalique works." Today these works are housed in a dedicated space at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon.
The authoritative collection of Gulbenkian's jewelry, objets d'art, artistic glass, and drawings is documented in this elegant catalog, first published in 2009 and quickly sold out, becoming highly sought-after. "René Lalique at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum" offers readers a comprehensive overview of Lalique's activity.
Conditions: the volume is in excellent condition. The cover is well preserved. Solid paperback. Internal pages clean, with no creases or stains. An excellent copy for collectors/reference.
