Abstract bronze sculpture titled Amaltheia from Greece, patented as patinated bronze, 60 cm high, 22 cm wide, 10 cm deep, created in 1971 and unsigned, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Stylized masterwork of modernity – Bronze sculpture “Amaltheia”
Category: Visual Arts & Sculpture / Modern Art in Ancient Garb
Era / Origin: Greece, 1970s
Title of the Work: “Amaltheia” (Inspired by the divine Nymph and goat of Greek mythology)
Object Description
Expressive, stylized bronze sculpture that bridges the gap between classical ancient formal language and the elegant minimalism of the 20th century. The work bears the mythological title “Amaltheia” and embodies the legendary figure who nursed the young god Zeus in a Cretan cave.
The sculpture captivates with its flowing, almost calligraphic S-curve that delineates the graceful body of the animal. Of particular note is the imposing, broad-spread and artistically ribbed horn, which lends the composition a dynamic verticality. The surface texture is organized into finely worked patterns: while the neck shows a diamond-shaped hatching, the flank and chest bear striking engraved spiral motifs that directly recall the ornamentation of the Greek Geometric period.
Condition & Details
• Material: Bronze on rectangular original plinth
• Patina: Excellently preserved, authentic dark patina with warm bronze tones on the prominent relief structures.
• Dimensions: 60 x 22 x 10 cm
• Conservation: Very good collector’s condition with minimal, age-related traces, which emphasize the object’s antique character.
