Description from the seller

This rare and fascinating botanical teaching model was produced by the historic Osterloh-Modell manufactory in Germany, around 1880. It is an object designed for university and school teaching of botany, at a time when microscopy was not yet widespread and enlarged models were an indispensable tool for understanding plant structures. The piece reproduces, on an enlarged scale, a plant section, clearly highlighting the internal anatomical details that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. The structure is made of papier-mte and hand-painted wood, following the traditional techniques used by Osterloh and by other famous German houses of the 19th century, such as Brendel. The colors and chromatic applications, still well preserved today, allow the various parts of the plant tissue and the different internal layers to be distinguished. These models were not only scientific instruments, but real works of applied art: every detail was studied to combine scientific rigor with aesthetics, turning knowledge of botany into a clear and immediate visual experience. Osterloh models, today very rare on the antique market, represent a precious testimony to the history of European scientific education and are particularly sought after by collectors, natural history museums, and enthusiasts of educational curiosities. The model’s dimensions make it a striking display piece, capable of engaging both museum environments and private collections dedicated to science, botany, and historical teaching tools. Note: Light signs of wear due to time.

Seller's Story

The Mineral Art Gallery offers minerals, fossils, shells and natural elements. Born in Italy in 2017, today she collaborates with international galleries and collectors, she is a direct importer of large minerals and naturalistic collectible elements; deals with the processing to insert them inside the living space. A section of the gallery was dedicated to the Wunderkammer, "chamber of wonders or cabinet of curiosities" in which Mirabilia elements are presented: naturalia and italiania, a union between "the present is the past". All lots are shipped via DHL Express and Fercam couriers, with insured parcel and tracking.
