An exquisite Art Deco alabaster bust dating from circa 1920–1930 in the Realism style.
Description from the seller
Beautiful and refined antique Art Deco bust portraying the French national heroine Joan of Arc as a young shepherdess from Domrémy. This finely detailed artwork is crafted from high-quality, hand-carved Italian alabaster and mounted on a matching marble plinth.
The statue is an authentic work by the Italian sculptor O. Guerrieri from the early 20th century (circa 1920-1930). The artist has vividly captured the historical figure with her characteristic medieval hood (béguin) and the traditional peasant dress with a laced closure at the chest. Her serene, slightly upward gaze gives the sculpture a powerful and spiritual aura. The piece is authentically signed on the back by the master with "O. Guerrieri".
The object is in a lived-in, original vintage condition with authentic age patina. The details in the finely cut alabaster have been exceptionally well preserved. Important note regarding condition: The marble plinth has been broken in the past and subsequently (skilfully) glued/repaired. This old restoration is visible on the bottom and sides (see detail photos), but the plinth is structurally stable and the sculpture stands firmly on its base.
