AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful, large for its species, polished Turbo sarmaticus shell, a common name for the South African turban, is a species of sea snail, a mollusk of the Turbinidae family. The non-perforate shell has a spherical, depressed shape. Its color pattern is matte brown, with a fiery hue above, below more or less ribbed or spotted with white, usually showing roughly a lower orange-red band, between which and the nacre layer lies a layer of intense black. The very short spire is conical. 5–6 whorls are convex, but the upper ones are concave. The upper ones contain revolving lirae. They are often carinated, the last cutting across several rows of tubercles, from which the crown is more noticeable and constant. The large, globular aperture is very slanted and beautifully pearly inside. The outer lip is thin, edged with intense black in the center. The nacre does not reach the edge. The arcuate columella is wide, somewhat produced below, broadly excavated above. The parietal wall is eroded, with a black blotch. Dimensions - 60/85/105 mm. Highly recommended for collectors and interior decorators.
