Maison Christofle Paris: History and Prestige
Founded in Paris in 1830 by Charles Christofle, the Maison Christofle is the supreme symbol of silversmithing, luxury, and the French art de vivre worldwide.
Its historical significance stems from the great industrial revolution of 1842, when Christofle acquired exclusive patents for electroplating silvering and gilding. This innovation allowed the manufactory to produce objects of the highest quality and extraordinary luster, ensuring the silver’s resistance for everyday forms and uses.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, Christofle became the official supplier of Emperor Napoleon III, European royal courts, as well as prestigious luxury hotels, shipping lines (such as the transatlantic liner Normandie), and fine dining.
Even today, owning a piece signed Christofle means choosing an item of high artisanal value, historicity, and timeless design.
Condition: The set presents in excellent overall condition, solid, structurally intact and ready for use or display. Being antique and used, it shows the normal light signs of time and use: very light dings, minor scratches, and natural superficial patinas due to washing and use (as visible in close-up photos). External silverware is polished, with beautiful luster and a splendid overall aesthetic."
