Number plate - Very Rare Alderney/ Channel Island - One Digit license plate

An rare and original Alderney rear license plate 'AY9', issued in the tiny island jurisdiction of Alderney in the Channel Islands (square, 20,5 x 19 cm., yellow reflective background with black characters).
Single-digit registrations are among the most desirable plates for collectors, and AY 9 is one of only nine possible single-digit Alderney numbers (AY1–AY9). Alderney has a population of only around 2,100 inhabitants and a correspondingly small vehicle register, making its license plates far scarcer than those from most European small countries.
This plate was obtained directly from a former resident of Alderney. ‘Only nine Alderney single-digit registrations exist and AY9 is among the earliest and most distinctive numbers issued by the island.’
