Set of antique iron scales dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, comprising a French Roberval balancescale with two copper/brass pans and a Salter Family Scale No. 50 from Britain, including two sets of iron weights in a wooden block and noting some smallest weights missing.
Description from the seller
Green scale H 40 - W 66 - D 30 cm
This is an antique Roberval balance scale, recognizable by the cast-iron base with the relief inscription "FORCE TO KILO" (often referred to as a Force 10 Kilo scale). This type of mechanical countertop scales was widely used from the late 19th century well into the 20th century in French and Belgian grocers, butcher shops, and market stalls to weigh goods.
The scale features a characteristic cast-iron frame and two copper/brass pans: a flat pan for the loose weights and a deeper bowl for the items to be weighed.
The scale has a beautiful, authentic patina. The mechanism still works smoothly and is functional.
Includes original 2 sets of iron weights in a wooden block + loose weights.
Large block = 30 cm wide, Small block = 14 cm wide
note the smallest weights are missing.
Standing scale
H 33 - W 27 - D 27
This object is an antique cast-iron Salter Family Scale No. 50 kitchen scale from Great Britain, made around the turn of the 20th century (circa 1900–1930).
The internal spring mechanism still operates smoothly.
