Specimen showing embryonic development of a chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) preserved in a cylindrical glass jar with a decorated lid, origin Romania, in good condition, packaged in glass, dimensions 31 cm high by 15 cm wide by 15 cm deep.
Description from the seller
Offered an extremely rare and fascinating biological/medical teaching specimen preserved in strong ethanol, presented in an authentic cylindrical glass jar with a decorated lid.
This historic museum model shows the successive stages of embryonic development of a chicken.
The specimen contains several carefully preserved stages of the incubation period, starting at day 5 (formation of early organs) through day 14 and later stages, in which the chick is fully formed and covered with down/feathers.
Each developmental stage inside the cylinder is provided with the original typed Romanian labels describing the biological characteristics and exact incubation days.
The labels refer to a medical/biological institute in Bucharest, which attests to the academic and educational provenance of this piece.
Such objects were exclusively manufactured in the first half of the 20th century for universities, schools, and anatomical cabinets to demonstrate embryology in poultry to students.
Of course it is carefully packaged and shipped.
During shipping, flocculation may occur; it settles to the bottom very quickly.
