Description from the seller
Art Deco Mechanical Folding Cigarette Case in Burl Wood and 800 Silver - Fascio Punch – Era of the Twenty Years
Splendid vintage Art Deco tabletop cigarette case, dating from the 1930s/40s (Fascist Era). An superb collectible piece, sought after not only for noble materials but for the complexity of its internal mechanism.
• "Pazzaetto" / Fan mechanism: By lifting the silver lid, an ingenious system of brass levers automatically raises 3 internal wooden compartments in a stepped, descending arrangement, designed to display cigarettes in staggered fashion.
• Base: Made of fine burl wood (likely holly burl or walnut) finely polished, with beautiful natural warm veining and flames, shaped with the typical rounded and flared Art Deco lines.
• Lid: In solid 800 silver, decorated with a geometrical checkerboard texture (guilloché) finely worked. Features a linear black bakelite handle for opening.
• Hallmarking: On the outer edge of the lid the vintage marks are clearly visible (Law no. 305 of 1934): the 800 title enclosed in an oval and the truncated lozenge of the silversmith containing the maker's number, the central Fasces and the province acronym.
• Base dimensions: 13.5 x 13.5 cm
• Height: 6 cm
• Total weight: 310 grams
Condition:
The item is presented in good vintage structural condition. The burl wood retains a splendid luster and the silver shows a beautiful patina of time (can be polished to mirror finish at the buyer’s discretion). Clean interior and functioning closing mechanism.
