AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Grand antique marble and bronze mantel clock – Japy Frères & Cie – 19th century

Magnificent and imposing French mantel clock dating from the second half of the 19th century, estimated between 1870 and 1900, equipped with a mechanical movement bearing the stamp of the famous manufacturer **Japy Frères & Cie**.

This superb clock is distinguished by its elegant and refined architecture, combining black marble with veined marble decorative elements and bronze.

Its structure features magnificent columns, rich bronze ornaments, and a remarkable decorative crown. The whole reflects the taste and craftsmanship of French clockmaking creations of that era.

Its gilded dial, richly worked, integrates harmoniously with the overall piece and underscores the majestic character of this clock.

### Movement and operation

The clock is fitted with a manually-wound mechanical movement, stamped **Japy Frères & Cie**.

**The mechanism was personally tested for three consecutive days, during which the clock ran without interruption or stopping.**

The striking mechanism is also functional. It triggers regularly, with sometimes a single strike and sometimes a series of several strikes, notably a series of ten strikes observed during the tests.

The clock comes with its winding key and its pendulum.

### Dimensions and weight

* Height: 47 cm
* Width: 29 cm
* Depth: 16 cm
* Weight: 28.4 kg

Its particularly heavy weight and generous dimensions give it a remarkable presence.

### Condition

This antique clock is presented in a very good overall condition for its age.

The decorative elements are well preserved and the whole presents a very attractive appearance.

Only a tiny superficial chip is to be noted on the upper part, toward the back, very discreet and difficult to see due to its small size and the color of the material.

This small defect does not affect the overall presentation or the operation of the clock.

The photographs are an integral part of the description and allow appreciation of the details as well as the conservation status.

### Shipping

Given the significant weight of this antique clock and the fragility of its decorative elements, special care will be taken with its packaging.

**Shipping will be carried out with reinforced protection and carefully prepared packaging to best secure the clock during transport.**

A beautiful piece of old French clockmaking, ideal for enthusiasts of collectible clocks, antiques, and classic decoration.
