Fossil woolly mammoth tooth (Mammuthus primigenius) on a handmade wooden stand, treated as geconserveerd and in natural condition from the Quaternary Pleistoceen period, originating in the Netherlands and weighing 1200 g with dimensions 19 cm by 20 cm by 9 cm.
Description from the seller
A magnificent original complete tusk from a woolly mammoth on a handmade wooden pedestal.
This tusk was recovered from a part of the North Sea that used to be Doggerland.
Doggerland, also known as the “Atlantis of the North Sea,” was a vast area that connected England with continental Europe. This area was inhabited by humans for almost a million years. During the ice ages, when sea levels were low, Doggerland stood dry and was a fertile hunting ground for Neanderthals and later modern humans.
The woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) is an extinct elephant species that lived during the Pleistocene (the Last Glacial Period). The mammoth was well adapted to cold climates with its thick coat of long hairs, ranging from blond and light brown to dark brown and black. They also had a thick layer of fat for extra insulation.
Woolly mammoths stood about 2.7 to 3.4 meters tall, comparable to the modern African elephant. They lived in herds on the sprawling mammoth steppe, a cold, dry grassland that stretched from Europe to North America.
