Description from the seller

Antique Spanish altar frontal (antependium) in garnet and burgundy damask, featuring golden gallons and fringe.
Estimated period: 18th–19th centuries.
Materials: silk, vegetable-fiber lining (apparently linen or hemp), metallic thread gallons, garnet textile fringe trim.

Three sided perimetral antependium composed by 9 rectangular panels (5 for the front, and 4 to cover each side of the altar). Ecclesiastical textile used in liturgical ceremonies. Used item.

The surface displays a rich, plant-inspired ornamental design. The composition is structured around large scrolls, stylized leaves, sinuous stems, and floral forms with curvilinear contours, all intricately intertwined. Particularly striking are the elaborate botanical motifs—featuring lobed leaves, volutes, and acanthus-like elements—complemented by smaller foliate forms and decorative details that add depth through the interplay of light and shadow across the damask. It is finished with a border of metallic gold thread and corded fringe trim. The entire assembly is supported on a backing of linen or hemp.

Dimensions: 433 x 80 cm.
Origin: Madrid, Spain.
Color: garnet and burgundy (is difficult to capture the exact color in photographs).
Condition: good condition. An original and used piece showing signs of wear and aging. Wrinkles, traces of wax, stains from ceremonial liquids (possibly wine), small rusty nail, rust stains on the reverse, later hand-stitched repairs, losses in the fringe and a small 3 cm. tear. Only superficial cleaning (admits precise cleaning). The item you will receive is the one that has been photographed.

[Please handle this item using protective equipment, such as gloves and a mask (due to the presence of rusted nails and stains. See detailed photos].

Fast shipping by transport company, with a tracking number provided. The item will be very well packaged and protected. An identification number is required for shipments outside the European Economic Area (EEA).
