Description from the seller
Fine porcelain coffee cup with its saucer, characterized by a ribbed/lobed body and a finely gilt wavy rim with foliate scrolls and rocailles motifs.
Cup: Features a structure of alternating wedges: white-ground reserves adorned with graceful rococo-style scenes painted by hand (elegant figures in period dress set in countryside landscapes) alternating with bright yellow-ground reserves embellished with bouquets of multicolored flowers (Deutsche Blumen). The handle is a curving loop and is entirely gilt.
Saucer: Recapitulates the same geometric division of the decoration, with four alternating segments between gallant scenes and floral reserves on a yellow background, bordered by gilt scroll frames. The central cavetto features a floral spray on a white ground.
Apocryphal blue underglaze mark on the bottom of both pieces (a doubled intertwined “AR” in the Augustus Rex style) for Helena Wolfsohn
Germany, late 19th century
