Barbie & Ken – Grand Ole Opry Country Duet – 1999 – Collector Gift Set
Edited by Mattel in 1999, this Barbie & Kenny Country Duet collectible set constitutes the third and final installment of the series devoted to the Grand Ole Opry, after Country Rose Barbie (1997) and Rising Star Barbie (1998).
Founded in 1925 in Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry is one of the major institutions of American country music. Its radio show and stage have helped introduce several generations of artists and to place Nashville at the heart of the history of this musical genre.
This final box set of the series brings Barbie and Kenny together for the first time as a duo, in a staging reminiscent of grand country concerts. The display reproduces the Grand Ole Opry stage, with its parquet floor, lighting, and its characteristic sign.
Barbie wears a turquoise iridescent pantsuit, accompanied by a black and silver floral patterned jacket, a white jabot blouse, and black ankle boots. Kenny is dressed in a black Western-style suit, with a white shirt, a belt with a silver buckle and boots. A miniature guitar, microphones, and a cowboy hat complete the presentation.
