Wall sculpture of Mary with the Christ Child, entirely carved from wood. Mary holds the child close to her chest and both figures are given a simple round halo. The elongated form, strongly simplified volumes and deeply carved folds give the work a distinctly modern African formal language. The back is largely kept flat.
Height approximately 60 cm; carved wood with dark patina, on the back signed “Sinankwa Léonce”, in good overall condition with light signs of age and use.
