Description from the seller

Beautiful vintage sculpture in Regula (antimony/zinc alloy) with a refined brown patina that mimics the shading of ancient bronze. The piece is historically identified with the title "La Rencontre" (The Meeting) and depicts a romantic, bucolic scene: a young couple of lovers in traditional rural dress captured in a moment of understanding. The boy holds a basket full of fruit with his left hand, while the girl is portrayed in a graceful motion, with the drapery of her dress finely detailed to accentuate the dynamism of the pose.

From a stylistic and iconographic standpoint, the subject fits squarely within the celebrated production of the French sculptors’ dynasty Moreau (notably Auguste Moreau), unquestioned masters of decorative statuary during the Belle Époque and Art Nouveau. The internal hollow base structure shows the typical grayish surface of period regula castings. No signatures or visible marks on the base. Thanks to the notable thickness of the metal, the object carries substantial weight relative to its size, a testament to excellent period craftsmanship.

Material: Regula (antimony/zinc) with brown patina
Period: Late 19th century / Early 20th century (Art Nouveau / Belle Époque)
Height: 36 cm
Weight: 4.9 kg
Country of origin: France
Signature / Marks: None present

CONDITION OF THE OBJECT
The sculpture is in good overall condition, fully consistent with the age and period of the piece. The surface patina is well preserved, uniform and polished, with minimal and normal signs of aging that attest to its authenticity and history.
The level of detail is truly remarkable for period regula creations (see photos) and testifies to the quality of the historical craftsmanship.
The metal structure is perfectly solid and free from fissures, cracks, or missing parts. It shows only minimal signs of wear for a 130-year-old work.
At the lower interior of the base small modern removable protective pads have been added.

Professional packaging designed to preserve the integrity and weight of the statuette.
