Description from the seller
ZOOFORM FIGURE OF A DOG RECLINING IN BRONZE – ROMAN
Stylistic attribution: Roman era, 1st–3rd centuries CE.
Interesting small bronze zoomorphic sculpture depicting a dog in a repose position, with an elongated body, an upright head, and the characteristic tail raised and curled over the hindquarters.
The figure stands out for its expressive interpretation of the animal, with a pronounced snout, marked ears, and gathered limbs, within a compact and balanced composition.
The representation of the dog occupied a prominent place in the Roman world, both in the domestic sphere and in symbolism, associated with fidelity, vigilance, and the protection of the home.
Conservation: it shows a notable dark green patina with earth deposits and superficial concretions, which give great visual character to the whole. The main anatomical elements and its distinctive silhouette are preserved.
An attractive small-format piece, especially interesting for collectors of ancient bronzes, zoomorphic sculpture, and classical antiquities.
Material: cast bronze.
Proposed dating: 1st–3rd centuries CE, by stylistic comparison.
