Description from the seller
Polychrome terracotta sculpture molded and hand-painted, a work by Guido Cacciapuoti for the Grès d’Arte Cacciapuoti manufactory in Milan, produced between the Forties and Fifties of the twentieth century.
The sculpture depicts a masked Venetian lady, captured in an elegant and flirtatious pose, with the face slightly raised and the body posed in a stance of refined theatricality.
The figure wears a wide pink-lilac cloak, decorated with a delicate lace-imitation motif, layered over a rich gown with broad pleats, adorned with gilded ramages and small multicolored floral bouquets. Completing the costume are a tricorn hat and a golden mask, evocative of the festive and gallant atmosphere of the Venetian carnival.
The composition rests on an oval rocaille-style base, characterized by plastic scrolls and gold highlights.
The work is distinguished by the expressive vivacity of the figure, the elegance of the movement, and the particular richness of the decorative painting, in which floral motifs, fabric effects, and precious gilded finishes alternate, the latter achieved by third-firing.
In the background there is the signature of the manufactory and the origin indication Made in Italy.
The sculpture measures 21.5 cm in height and 15 cm in width. A slight and physiological wear of the gilding is noted, compatible with the period and the nature of the decorative technique, which does not compromise the aesthetic quality and legibility of the work.
