Early 20th century Jingdezhen porcelain bowl with green-enamel dragon medallions on a white ground, bearing an iron-red base mark, 15.6 cm in diameter and 6 cm high, from a private collection and in good condition.
Description from the seller
This is an early 20th century porcelain bowl from Jingdezhen, featuring green-enameled "coiled dragon" motifs on a white ground. It measures approximately 15.6 cm in diameter and 6 cm in height.
The bowl has a flared rim, curved sides, and a circular foot ring. On the base, there is a four-character mark in iron-red regular script (kaishu) reading "Made in the Guangxu Period." The exterior features four medallions, each containing a coiled dragon. The dragon’s form is outlined in black ink and filled with a soft, lustrous green enamel; the claws are rendered with vigor, surrounded by auspicious clouds, and the scales are depicted with meticulous detail. Accents of iron-red add depth and a rich, layered color palette.
The white glaze is luminous and pristine, with a soft, understated sheen characteristic of the period. The coiled dragon motif was a classic auspicious design in the late Qing dynasty, symbolizing power and prosperity. Such pieces were frequently used for celebrations—such as birthdays or weddings—and served both as elegant decorative objects and as refined items for a scholar’s studio.
The porcelain body is dense and well-fired, with a smoothly finished foot ring; it is an excellent example of late Qing-era Jingdezhen ware. The piece is in a fine state of preservation, making it an ideal acquisition for collectors of Oriental porcelain or enthusiasts of antique ceramics.
The images provided are of the actual object; please note that slight color variations may occur depending on the lighting conditions. the piece bears natural signs of aging; please refer to the photographs for an accurate assessment of its condition.
