Description from the seller

Rare and monumental double-walled iced water decanter (Eiskrug / Thermoskanne) crafted by the renowned Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF), dating from circa 1886–1895 (German Historicism / Neo-Renaissance).

This imposing pouring vessel (standing no less than 32 cm tall) testifies to the high-quality casting and engraving work of WMF from the late 19th-century German Empire. The jug features a double-walled construction with an original integrated white porcelain/ceramic inner pot to keep drinks optimally cool.

Special details & decoration:

Bands & Frieze: Along the upper rim and the curved foot runs a richly detailed high-relief frieze in which heraldic eagles with outstretched wings are interwoven with luxuriant Neo-Renaissance scrollwork and tendrils.

Engravings: The body bears a refined Japonisme-style engraving with floral motifs, reed swirls, a butterfly, and a diamond-shaped cartouche (blank, not personalized).

Construction: Hinged lid with a profiled vase-shaped lid knop and a robust cast handle with scrollwork termination. On either side of the neck are the original mounting lugs for placement in a tilt stand (Kippgestell).

Features & Factory Marks:

Manufacturer: WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, Geislingen an der Steige)

Marks on the base: Fully and sharply stamped WMFM and 1/0 (early factory mark: M = brass base material, 1/0 = indication of the original normal silvering).

Finish: The object has been expertly polished to the warm brass base, with the relief in the frieze bands maintaining a beautiful deep contrast.

Condition:
In very good, collectible condition with light, age-appropriate signs of wear and use (minimal surface scratches and authentic patina). The porcelain inner pot is exceptionally pristine with no cracks or restorations. The hinge operates smoothly. View the extensive photo series for your own impression.

Dimensions:

Height: ca. 32 cm

Base diameter: ca. 16.5 cm

Width (spout to handle): ca. 24 cm
